The Taylor University Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo will present a program of jazz classics for big band and combo on Tuesday, May 3, at 7:30 pm in the Butz Carruth Recital Hall of the Smith-Hermanson Music Center.
Jazz classics to be performed include Quincy and the Count by Sammy Nestico, Robbins Nest (theme song of the 1947 jazz radio show) arranged by Rick Stitzel, Love is Here to Stay by George and Ira Gershwin, and Seven Steps to Heaven by Miles Davis. Contemporary big band jazz selections include Jada by Oliver Nelson, iBop by Mark Taylor, Cobblestones by Kris Berg, and Back Home Again in Indiana by Dominic Spera.
Student soloists to be featured on the concert include Gardner Stewart, Cameron Eckmann, Braden Ochs, Daniel Morrison, Chris Shelor, Jon Warren, Zach Hensel, Roscoe Rea, and Joshy Kongmaneechachawal. Jeff Anderson, director of the Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra and of the Taylor University Combo will also be a featured soloist on Back Home Again in Indiana in tribute to the Indiana Bicentennial Celebration.
